years held in Congress on America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act, H.R. 1925.  The hearing, which will be held in the House National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands Subcommittee, provides an opportunity to move this important legislation forward and to engage Utahns and people from across the nation in advocating for protection of Utah’s special wild lands.

For Thursday’s hearing we have an all-star line-up representing support for Utah wilderness across ideological and political boundaries.  Testifying on behalf of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act will be Rocky Anderson, Former Mayor of Salt Lake City and a Democrat;  Bryson Garbett, President of Garbett Homes, President of the Salt Lake Home Builders and a former Republican Utah State Representative; and Peter Metcalf, CEO of Black Diamond, Small Business Person of the Year from Utah and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

And, more good news: support for Utah wilderness among Utahns is growing!  A poll conducted a few weeks ago by Dan Jones & Associates shows that of Utahns who have an opinion about Utah wilderness, 60% support protecting 9 million acres or more.

Now for the bad news.  In spite of this growing support among Utahns for Utah wilderness, all five members of our congressional delegation and our Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell (representing Gov. Herbert) are planning to testify against America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act.  Here’s where we need your help!  Please send a message to Governor Herbert letting him know that you want him to help protect wilderness by supporting America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act.

Working together we are building great momentum for Utah wilderness protection.
