Dear
As you know, last month, Sen. Orrin
Hatch and Rep. John Curtis of Utah introduced the Emery County Public Lands
Management Act of 2018, a bill that would chop up conservation areas and wilderness
with off-road vehicle routes and trails, and undermine existing protections for
wilderness-quality lands in the San Rafael Swell and among the canyons of the Green River.
Contact your member of Congress today and tell them to
oppose the Emery County Public Lands Management Act of 2018!
A quick reminder of what the bill does:
- Enshrines an illegal off-road vehicle plan that we’ve already
defeated in court, and would result in the proliferation of even more motorized
trails in the San Rafael Swell
- Arbitrarily protects just one side of Labyrinth Canyon; leaves
out most of Muddy Creek (the largest roadless area in the region); and protects
nothing at all in the San Rafael Badlands.
- Seeks to give federal lands to the state of Utah and opens a
currently protected wilderness study area to facilitate coal mining.
Help us fight back! Contact your members of Congress and
tell them to stop the Utah delegation’s war on public lands!
