Dear Friend,
Help convince Sen. King to support protecting America's Redrock Wilderness! Photo copyright Tom Till. |
Whether it is the tranquil green forests of our own state or
the stunning redrock canyons of southern Utah, Mainers have an extensive
appreciation for our nation’s wild places.
Now, we have a special opportunity to make a real difference for Utah
wilderness protection in Congress.
For over 20 years, America’s
Red Rock Wilderness Act (ARRWA) has stood as the vision for what is
possible when it comes to protecting Utah's majestic redrock landscapes. Strong congressional support nationwide has helped to establish some form of protection for over
5 million acres of redrock wild lands and has helped defeat 13 bad bills for Utah
wilderness in Congress.
Newly elected Maine Senator Angus King already has an
affinity for southern Utah from a family trip out West, but now it is up to us,
as Maine residents, to convince him to support ARRWA and become a congressional
champion for Utah wilderness.
Will you join us?
Here’s how you can help:
1) Join our Mainers for Utah Wilderness Action Team
by clicking here. Members of the Action
Team will work together to collect letters to Sen. King, meet with his district
staff, and brainstorm actions that will help persuade Sen. King to cosponsor
America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act.
AND
2) Compose a handwritten letter to Sen. King,
asking that he become a cosponsor of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act. Remember to include why, as a constituent,
protecting the spectacular public lands in southern Utah is important to you. Then, send your letter to Jackie Feinberg,
National Grassroots Organizer for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, so
that she can hand deliver your letter to Sen. King’s Washington, DC office
(sending letters to Congress through regular mail can often take weeks because
of security measures).

As an Independent, Sen. King is in a unique position to help demonstrate broad support for protecting Utah wilderness if we can convince him to
cosponsor America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act.
We hope you will join us and help accomplish this task!
